Something Is Fishy Here

Greetings!
If you’re like us, you’re always looking for an easy way to get a leg up on premature aging and disease.
That’s why we continue to scour medical journals and news to see if there is anything new under the sun on the topic of making us healthier.
We are sure you’ve heard of Omega 3, the fish oil supplement that is good for coronary and vascular health and lowering cholesterol… we take it daily as a supplement, in addition to our doctor prescribed statin.
But here’s the rub:
When several long-term studies failed to demonstrate that Omega 3 supplements were beneficial in this area; that is, the prevention of MI, stroke, and angina, we had to begin wondering if the hype was deserved.
The last thing we want to do is to take a supplement that has no real value.
These studies, we should point out, were well designed and well supervised. But, it is always important to look at the details--were we asking the right question?
And, it appears, alas, that we weren’t.
Omegas, you see are made up of EPA, DHA and one other that we know well (as it’s already in NeuraVite), ALA. The full names of these are tongue twisters so you’d do well to just remember the acronyms.
The most recent study began using primarily EPA over the previously used EPA/DHA mix, and shows better results. Although DHA contributes to brain health, it doesn’t seem to contribute much to lowering serum Triglycerides… whereas EPA does. They both work by interfering with the way that cholesterol and triglycerides attach to our arterial walls… it’s just that EPA does it much better than DHA or ALA.
Don’t get me wrong, DHA and ALA are still worth it, but more as anti-oxidants (which are shown to improve health in many areas), than as an arterial wall cleanser. It appears that EPA in combination with DHA at about 2 to 1 is a good bet. You’re already covered with ALA if you’re taking your NeuraVite, but adding EPA /DHA can lower blood serum triglycerides further.
As always, ask your doctor before taking any supplements.
Look for quality products and aim for 3-4 grams per day… or seek out fattier cold water fish.
Yours In Health,
Your Friends at NeuraVite
