Show Us Your Metal

Greetings!

No, not your mettle - your grit and determination,
but rather your metal - as in the minerals so important to your health:
Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, Zinc and Selenium… and others too.

More on them later.

You usually hear us talking about vitamins here, but it’s just as important to your overall health to take in adequate amounts of minerals.

The chemical processes required for optimum health need many of these “catalysts” for the smooth running of literally every cell.
T oday, we will talk about MAGNESIUM

More than 80% of us have been found to be deficient in this critical mineral, according to one study. Magnesium takes part in over 600 different human cell reactions…. so you can see it’s very important.

The use of diuretics to treat hypertension, modern farming techniques, food processing and, ironically, staying too well-hydrated (dilution effect), can contribute to decreased levels of magnesium.

This lack can manifest as altered blood sugar, irritable bowel, leg cramps, heart palpitations, bone de-mineralization, constipation (especially in women), and even hypertension and Fibromyalgia.
Studies show these benefits of taking Magnesium at night:
  • Muscle relaxation for a better night’s sleep
  • Improved mood

So where can I get me some of this?

Magnesium is found in abundance in seeds and nuts, but also in avocados, bananas and beans too.
We always prefer to get our needed nutrients naturally, if possible, but if you need a supplement, remember this:
Supplements are NOT created equal.
Some forms of Magnesium are poorly absorbed by the gut. Look for Magnesium glycinate as the best absorbable form for this supplement.

As always, ask your doctor and get tested as part of a regular check -up before embarking on any supplement
