Losing our way / finding our way
Share
Greetings!
āSometimes, we lose our way while standing very stillā
Kierkegaard
I remember a wonderful passage from āThe Three Musketeersā where a soldier, having lit a bomb to breach a castle wall, simply cannot bring himself to throw itā¦ so consumed is he with the many thoughts swirling in his head.
The end is catastrophe, of course. Sometimes, I feel exactly that way too.
Our lives are a torrent of information, responsibilities, and worries. And, in much the same way as our unfortunate soldier, we dither andā¦..wellā¦.
How can we escape that confusion and chaos and make those decisions that move us forward and through?
Psychology gives us a simple exercise to overcome these paralyzing moments.
Readyā¦ itās pretty simple: Lift a finger.
Come on, just do it. Lift a finger as a demonstration that you are in control.
Not the newsā¦ Not the To-do listā¦
You!
The control that this might demonstrate is often all that is necessary to move again toward the actions that bring about a better resultā¦ and a better life.
Go for that walk, make the phone call, write the email.
We all cognitively know that our actions lead to results, but then fail to take those actionsā¦ dithering untilā¦
Fortune favors the bold
Action becomes success
And in those small actions, we find the path that leads us back.
Yours in health,
